The VPN profile
HTTPGlass uses iOS’s NetworkExtension framework with a Personal VPN (a packet tunnel
provider). Ad blockers and some firewall apps use the same mechanism. It’s how an App Store app is
allowed to look at traffic from other apps without a jailbreak.
Turning it on and off
Section titled “Turning it on and off”Tap the play button on the Traffic tab to start capturing, and the stop button to end it. Settings › VPN has the same Start Capture and Stop Capture buttons, plus Install VPN Profile and Remove VPN Profile.
Stopping capture tears the tunnel down immediately, and other apps go back to talking directly to the internet.
If it gets stuck on “Connecting…”
Section titled “If it gets stuck on “Connecting…””This is almost always the one-time warm-up after install, not a broken tunnel. See VPN stuck on “Connecting…” if it doesn’t clear within a few seconds.
Removing the profile
Section titled “Removing the profile”Tap Remove VPN Profile in Settings › VPN, or go to iOS Settings › General › VPN & Device Management › VPN › HTTPGlass › Delete VPN. Deleting the app removes the profile too.
